WELLNESS PROGRAMS: EXPENSIVE, DON’T REDUCE HEALTH CARE SPENDING, MAY CAUSE HARM
Lawrenceville, NJ (Dr Simone) – Forty randomized wellness program studies were reviewed (1-4). Employers typically pay $200 to $2,000 per employee. Employers do not save money and wellness program do not reduce health care spending. There is no evidence for long term health improvement. Cost shifting occurs, with the most vulnerable employees – those from lower socioeconomic strata with the most health risks – bear more costs that subsidize healthier colleagues.
America spends the most on health, ranks last among the top 19 nations, and has one of the highest infant mortality rates. Without our initiative (Simone Health Insurance Advantage http://drsimone.com/shia.htm), we will witness the catastrophic collapse of the health system.
