Lawrenceville, NJ (Dr. Simone) – People who have high levels of vitamin D in their bloodstream have enhanced immunity and a lower risk for colorectal cancer. Vitamin D boosts immune system function by activating T cells that recognize and attack cancer cells. This is the first study to show that high vitamin D levels are associated with a lower risk for colorectal cancer and anticancer immune function, supporting a role of vitamin D in cancer immunoprevention through tumor-host interaction.
